WASH
WASH stands for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene. It is an initiative aimed at improving access to clean water, and proper sanitation facilities, and promoting good hygiene practices, particularly in developing countries or areas facing water scarcity and inadequate sanitation infrastructure.
❝According to 2023 data from UNICEF and WHO, 2 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water, leading to at least 1.4 million people deaths.❞

Why it is important to implement WASH projects?
The primary goals of the WASH program are the following:
- Water refers to ensuring communities have sustainable access to clean drinking water sources, such as water wells or piped water systems. It focuses on providing clean water where needed, reducing waterborne diseases, and improving overall water management and conservation. By addressing these areas, GHR aims to promote healthier environments and improve public health outcomes.
- Sanitation promotes the construction and use of improved sanitation facilities, including toilets and waste management systems. It aims to address the lack of access to sanitation, which poses significant health risks and contributes to the spread of diseases.
- Hygiene emphasizes the proper disposal of waste and highlights the importance of hygiene. It aims to raise awareness about the benefits of hygiene and to inform communities about how hygiene helps prevent diseases.
The clean water access program is implemented in collaboration with various partners, including governments, civil society organizations, international institutions, and local communities. Ensuring access to clean water is ranked 6th among the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. In this context, it is essential to focus on activities that directly improve the lives of the targeted population. Key activities related to clean water access include:
- Providing families in designated areas with access to chlorinated, clean water
- Waste disposal management
- Water purification
- Distribution of hygiene kits
- Training sessions conducted by the Wellness and Health Awareness Team

What GHR is doing?
GHR aims to increase access to clean drinking water and improved basic sanitation services sustainably in high-risk areas.
The specific objectives GHR focuses on are:
- Implementing durable clean water access solutions and increasing people's access to safe drinking water, basic sanitation facilities, and hygiene services in disaster-prone communities.
- Promoting hygiene practices through training programs and awareness campaigns to improve sanitation and health conditions in communities.
- Increasing the capacity of the region where the beneficiary communities are located and ensuring the sustainable management of the relevant services.
